How to reset the maintenance light on a 2005 Honda CR-V

The maintenance light comes on to remind you that your vehicle is (sometimes) due for maintenance, or may be due soon.  However, if you do your own maintenance, or if the maintenance was done but the counter wasn't reset, you might want to reset it yourself to get rid of the MAINT REQ'D light.

To reset the maintenance light on a 2005 Honda CR-V, hold in the trip reset button (the button you push to reset the trip odometer or switch between trip counters) and start the vehicle.  The MAINT REQ'D message will still come on.  Continue holding down the trip reset button for about 10 seconds or so, and the MAINT REQ'D message will go away.  Once it does, you can release the button.

If the maintenance light does not go off after about 10 seconds, turn the vehicle off and try it again, being sure to hold in the trip reset button before starting the car.  Note that this method will turn off the maintenance light, but it won't do anything for the check engine light.
